1. What does the Foundation support?

The Northern Lights Health Foundation raises funds for Alberta Health Services in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. Together we are touching lives in our community every day by raising funds for enhanced technology, programs and services in Wood Buffalo. By supporting the Northern Lights Health Foundation you help provide the resources to deliver the finest health care possible for our community.

2. Does the money stay in our community?

All the money is used to purchase equipment for the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre. The equipment purchased is done in consultation with the Management team at the health centre in order that the equipment purchased best meets the needs of the health centre.

3. How much of my donation goes to operating costs?

Northern Lights Health Foundation's operating costs are funded by grants from Alberta Health Services non-governmental revenue, such as parking fees. This allows the full amount of your donation to be directed to the area that matters to you most.

4. Why am I being asked to give?

Our health centre serves all of the residents of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and as technologies advance so does the way in which health care is delivered. By giving to the Northern Lights Health Foundation, you can play a part in ensuring high quality health care services are available to all residents and their families for years to come.

7. Is it possible to make a monthly donation?

Yes, please visit our online donation form or contact the Foundation office to make arrangements for a monthly gift. We accept Visa, Mastercard or post-dated cheques.

9. Can I donate securities (e.g. stock or mutual funds) rather than cash?

Yes! Giving appreciated stock to Northern Lights Health Foundation is usually more advantageous than giving cash. Please visit the Gift of Securities page.

10. Is my gift tax deductible?

Yes, to the full amount allowed by the Canada Revenue Agency. Northern Lights Health Foundation is a registered charity. Gifts over $10 will receive a tax receipt. Monthly donors will receive one consolidated tax receipt, which will be mailed early in the year for the previous year's monthly donations. Foundations and registered charities do not receive a tax receipt.

11. Is my gift confidential?

Yes, if would prefer for it to be confidential please indicate this at the time of your gift. From the time that you make your decision to give to the Northern Lights Health Foundation only the Foundation office will have a record of your contribution.

13. Can I designate my gift?

Yes. Although the Northern Lights Health Foundation has an annual campaign focused on a specific high priority need within the health centre, you can direct donations to the specific areas and facilities that matter to you most. View our current needs or contact our Executive Director to discuss your wishes.

14. Why don't our tax dollars pay for medical equipment?

Tax dollars only pay for the basics of health care. That's why your gifts are so important. They buy vital equipment; renovate out-of-date hospital units, and support programs and services. They allow our community to have the very best in care available locally. Simply, your donations give our doctors and nurses the tools they need to provide the best possible care to every patient in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

15. How does the Foundation raise money?

The Foundation raises money through its special events - The Festival of Trees, Spring Fling Gala, Tournament FORE Health, East Coast Kitchen Party and Radio-thon. The Foundation also raises funds through its Direct Mail Appeal, Memorial Gifts, Major and Planned Gifts, Cash Lottery ticket sales, general donations and other in-house initiatives.

16. If I make a donation, will you give or sell my name to other charities?

No, The Northern Lights Health Foundation does not sell, lease, trade or share your information with anyone. Only generalized statistics may be shared or reported. Personal information about our donors is stored in a password protected database and manual filing system within the confines of the NLH Foundation office. All staff members sign a confidentiality agreement as part of their employment contract.

17. I want to have my name taken off the Northern Lights Health Foundation contact list – how do I that?

18. Do you have volunteer opportunities?

Yes! Each of our events throughout the year relies on volunteers and their skills in order to be successful. Anything from decorating, helping with silent auction items, greeting visitors or working coat check to tear down of the event are areas that volunteers help out with.
